Memorial Day 2022
The Annual Danvers Memorial Day Parade and Town Hall Ceremony will take place this year on Monday, May 30th, with the parade starting at 9 am and the Town Hall Ceremony occurring at approximately 10 am upon completion of the parade. "Memorial Day is about gratitude and remembrance and an opportunity to honor the men and women who have paid the ultimate price while serving our country at home and abroad. We are delighted to resume our traditional Memorial Day events after a two-year hiatus caused by the Pandemic and look forward to a great turnout" stated Kelley Rayos-Teixeira, Director of Veterans' Services.
Richard A. Greenlaw, a U.S. Army veteran, was selected to be the 2022 Grand Marshal. He is the recipient of the Korea Defense Service Medal which he earned for his service in Vietnam. The Danvers Veterans Council is honored to designate him as Grand Marshal.
The parade, starting from Town Hall at 9 am sharp, will follow the traditional route of previous years. Stops and placement of wreaths will be at the Porter Cemetery on High Street and the Memorial Flagpole site in Danvers Square. All Danvers veterans are invited to march in the parade in their civilian capacity. For those veterans unable to march, a trolley will be available at Town Hall and is handicapped accessible.
The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place in front of Town Hall upon parade completion. The Danvers High School Marching Band and Chamber Singers will perform. Guest Speaker will be Rev. Michael J. Doyle, CAPT. Chaplain Corps, U.S. Navy (Retired), and Pastor of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, who will explain his role as a military chaplain and share some of his experiences. The public is invited to attend this ceremony honoring all veterans.
"We are so very fortunate to live in a community where the sacrifices of our soldiers have not been forgotten. The people of Danvers are encouraged to pay tribute to the patriotism these brave men and women showed in their efforts to honor our country's freedom," stated Dick Moody, President of the Danvers Veterans Council.
If it appears that inclement weather may necessitate parade cancelation, a notice of cancelation will be posted on the Town of Danvers website by 7 am on May 30th. For additional information, contact Kelley Rayos-Teixeira at 978-777-0001, ext. 3025 or Dick Moody at 978-836-2395.
