Toomey Room, Town Hall
A Determination of Historical Significance is an administrative finding required of the Preservation Commission to decide whether a building or landmark meets any criteria described in the "Historically Significant Building" definition found in Section 2 of Chapter XXIX of the Town's General By-Law.
The property owner proposes removing the existing roof to accommodate a new, fully dormered half-story renovation project. This project has received approvals from both the Zoning Board and the Planning Board.
While the principal action before the Commission is to determine whether the structure is historically significant, staff believes the focus should be on if the proposed work to the roofline meets the definition of Demolition in the Bylaw (see below).
Demolition: Any act of pulling down, destroying, removing, razing, or moving a building or landmark, or any portion thereof, or commencing the work of relocating or of total or substantial destruction of a building or landmark, or portion thereof, with the intent of completing the same.
