Danvers Electric is excited to announce the launch of the new ‘Danvers Schools Go Solar’ program. This initiative is part of our Town's broader efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and promote clean, renewable energy sources.
Danvers Electric has partnered with Solect Energy to install solar panels on Highland Elementary School, Ivan G. Smith Elementary School, and Danvers High School. This system is designed to capture sunlight and convert it into clean, renewable energy. In total, 1.2 MW of solar panels will be installed and will supply clean, local energy to approximately 400 homes each year. This program blends well with the Town’s existing portfolio with the added benefit of avoiding costly transmission expenses to get the power to Danvers.
Once the projects are complete, Danvers Electric will be installing information kiosks in the lobbies of all the schools. These kiosks will display information about the system output and its impact on offsetting carbon emissions. To further engage with the community, Danvers Electric will also be sharing benchmark achievements from this project through social media and the town website.
Informational sessions will be set up with each of the schools annually to go over the benefits of solar panels, their impact on addressing climate change, and the advantage of having ‘in-town’ carbon-free power generation. These sessions will be conducted to enrich students' understanding of environmental issues and how the Town is working toward solutions.
